Pineapple Express

Two words: effing hilarious.  I mean it is what it is, a stoner action adventure movie, but it's also gut bustingly funny, and pretty violent too, all the ingredients of an awesome movie.  Seth Rogan is histerical as ever, and James Franco plays a truly authentic and truly funny stoner.  It's not gonna win any awards, but you'll definitely have fun watching it.

Saw this movie last night at the dollar theater for 75 cents (Tuesday night special), and I unfortunately have to say that's about how much it was worth.  Yeah, it provide plenty of genuinely creepy moments, and the whole idea and synopsis for the movie is really promising, but M. Night just didn't live up to his usual standard.  I mean, the ending, well, there really wasn't much of one.  No trademark M. Night Shaymalan twist, nothin.  I dunno, I can see where some might consider this as a decent movie, I just left the theater like "...eh."  Oh well, I guess the one sentence I can come up with to describe that movie was, "It had potential to be much much better."

emarosa

Once again, browsing through bands' and record labels' friend lists (has become one of my favorite things to do to find new music), came across this one on Rise records profile.  Kindof a melodic metal/hardcore sound.  Not really super unique, just really good. Think circa survive meets saosin...no screaming on from what I've heard so far so it can't be considered screamo, although aside from the vocals it probably emulates that kind of sound. Enjoy! I sure as hell am!

airports are the devil

Monday, August 04 2008 12:14 PM         No Comments

Yeah, I'm sick of everything that has to do with flying.  Airports, airplanes, everything that has to do with them.  So lemme give ya the rundown of my weekend of airport hell.

Friday

So this weekend I went to Lubbock to be the best man in my best friend, Brian's, wedding.  Friday I'm scheduled to fly out of Love Field at 11:55am putting me in LBK around 1pm with pleeenty of time to chill, eat lunch, get a haircut, and get ready for the rehearsal 6pm with dinner afterwards.  Well I get to the airport around 11am maybe a little after, but not much.  I go to check my bags (we were playing golf on Saturday so I had to check bags since I was bringin my clubs), and there's like 100 people in line, so I go to the end.  FORTY FIVE minutes later, I'm finally next in line.  I frantically get my bags checked and have maybe 10 min. to get through security and make my flight.  Oh yeah, I'm also dripping with sweat at this point as well cause apparently they were doing construction around the airport and some idiot cut a cable he wasn't supposed to and there was no AC in the entire airport, it's a good thing I gotta go all the way to gate 11.

So I go get in line to go through security.  I get to the front of the line then hear my name of the loud speaker followed by some muffled instruction.  What did he say???  I ask an attendant, "I just heard my name but couldn't understand what they said to do.  Did you hear what they said?".  "No," they said, "...but that usually means there's somethin goin on with your bags so you need to go back to baggage check."  Great.  So I go back to baggage check, ask the same question.  "No," they said, "....but that's probably the gate calling you telling you to hurry up cause they're about to leave you."  WTF?!?!  grrrr.  So I go get BACK in line.  I'm effed at this point, it's like 11:52.

I get through, I don't even hurry.  I know I've missed it, but go to the gate anyway.  I get there after like two miles of walking (gate 11 remember) and of course am not even close to making it.  I ask the attendant to switch me to the next flight.  Next flight isn't till 3:25.  Awesome, it's 12.  Oh, and it's booked??  Even more awesome.  She puts me on standby.  So now, if I DO get on the flight, I'll have an hour and a half to get to Brian's, get ready, and get to the church.  If I DON'T get on the flight, the next one after that is at 5pm....putting me in LBK at 6, which is when the rehearsal starts and with everyone in the rehearsal, no one would be able to pick me up.  I'd be double effed.  So, needless to say, I'm pretty stressed out at this point.

Having 3 1/2 hours to kill, and realizing I had things I was going to need to take care of once I got to Lubbock, I left the airport to go get my wig split (haircut).  I make it back by 2, grab som food, and wait paitently for my name to be called and recite my wedding toast in my head about 30 times.  Finally, as they are boarding the flight, and after created a nice ulcer in my stomach, my name is called.  I made the flight.

Phew!  Ok, now let the weekend festivities begin!

dead space...looks to be scary good (pun intended)

I first saw glimmers of this game several months back, but wasn't totally sure how it would turn out. I mean it looked cool, but there are tons of games that look cool with the first trailers and generated hype, that turn into complete flops (haze, for instance).  Plus, it's a FPS from EA Games, who hasn't had the best of luck producing shooters.

Now with E3 over, and all the gameplay videos, dev diaries, game previews, and concept explanations out there, I can confidently say that this is up there on my list of anticipated releases (October '08). Graphics are supposedly phenomenal, gameplay and storyline is unique, and, well, it's gonna be scary as hell. The lullaby trailer (embedded below) alone makes me think I'm gonna need to stock up on my Oops I Crapped my Pants before I get this game.

Afro Samurai e3 trailer

Don't let the semi-cheesy name and synopsis fool you, using a similar artistic style to the new Prince of Persia and keeping close to the animation style of the tv series the game's based on, this one looks promising....and the trailer is just cool as hell. Plus Samual L. Jackson and Ron Perlman are doing the voice acting. Diggin the soundtrack too :) (soundtrack's bein done by the RZA)
