You gotta hear this...

OK, I haven't posted anything  since my site's inception so I figured that if I don't want the money I used to purchase my domains to be wasted (I have trevorgriffin.net too), I need to start puttin some stuff out here.  One thing I figured I could countiunously provide content for is some sort of semi-regular featured band kinda deal, especially since I ALWAYS have bands either I've stumbled across, or that my bro has clued me in on, and if you know me you know that I have a compulsion to tell people about them, even if you don't like the particular kind of music :).  So I came up with You gotta hear this....   This will basically be a new band or band many people may or may not have heard of, but are worth a listen and maybe a little background on them as well.  It also may be new stuff that has come out by more popular bands, or bands that have been around longer, that most people may just not realize have new stuff out.

So, without further ado...

You gotta hear this...(drum roll)...

Fair to Midland

Definitely one of my favorite bands, this band is not as underground as they once were, and is one that many people have probably heard of by now. I still, however, come across a countless number of people who have never heard of them (especially when I'm wearing a FTM t-shirt..."It's a band? are they from midland?"...no), and they are definitely worth checking out.

A little background... FTM, although they claim Dallas, they're from Sulfur Springs, a small town that has some suprisingly excellent musical talent that comes out of it (FTM, The Timeline Post, etc.). When I first heard of them a few years ago, they had just come out with their second self recorded album, inter.funda.stifle, the first being The Carbon Copy Silver Lining.

Then while playing a gig in LA, System of a Down's very own Serj Tankian happened to witness the show, stating it was one of the best live performances he'd ever seen (and after seeing them 3 times, this is something I can definitely attest to). Shortly thereafter they were signed to Serj's record label, Serjical Strike Records, and midway through 2006 began recording their debut album with Serjical Strike, Fables from a Mayfly: What I tell you three times is true. This ablum went on to contain many of the originally recorded songs from inter.funda.stifle, and as good as they were on the first album, the recording quality on fables was leaps and bounds better than the previous.  This quality no doubt due to the unquestionable recording value brought to the table by famed producer David Bottrill (Tool, Muse, Silverchair, Flaw, Mudvayne, Coheed, etc.).

So, now that you've got some of the facts and useless music geek-speak, you  probably just want to hear them.  For now, I'll just give you guys a link to the good stuff, but in the future, hopefully I'll be able to just embed the myspace flash player directly on the post.  Anyway, here ya go!
